FAQ
When did everyone get their powers?
The spill happened in late June of 2008. Everyone has been using the water since then. When your character realizes they have powers is totally up to you.
How noticible are the powers?
Again, this is totally up to you. How often your character uses their powers, how strong, how frequent, and whether or not they can control it is all decided by you. It's your character. The purpose of them discovering their powers is for character development. Based on what you decided their personality to be like, that should be how they deal with it. Your character may be able to go months without noticing they have a power. Other people might notice, however.
Is there a cure?
No.
Will there be gamewide plot?
Yes. The mods have come up with a few gamewide plots, which will most likely begin after a couple weeks of character development. We want everyone to establish where their characters stand before we introduce huge plots. But, be assured, we have them.
Can my character be any age I want?
Yes. We encourage diversity among the characters. We don't want all highschool kids, and we also don't want all adults. Try to be creative. Perhaps someone wants their characters grandfather played. Look around.
How do the journals work?
In August of 2008, online forums were set up by the local government as a cleverly veiled way to monitor the townspeople after the spill. It was introduced as an online diary of sorts (like livejournal or insanejournal) and many of the townspeople took a liking to it. Teachers began using it to advise their students, doctors began using it to give advice to people who needed it, and teenagers began using it as a way to communicate with one another. However, there were complications. The townspeople figured out how to private entries to a single person, or a specific group of people, making the government not able to see all posts.
How do strikethrough's work?
Strike throughs, orthese, are used in many handwritten journal based games as a way to cross out words. Obviously since this is online, we can't really convey things like that. Instead, strikethroughs are words that a person typed and then backspaced. No one but the person who originally typed them knows they existed.
Can I write emails within the game, or have my characters chat over AIM?
Yes. Emails can count as third person threads and should be placed in the IC community under an lj-cut. AIM transcripts will also count as third person threads. Copy and paste the conversation, changing the screen names to whatever your character's screen names are and place under an lj-cut.
How many characters can I have?
To start, we ask that you stay at a minimum of two. If after a couple weeks playing both your characters actively you're still interested, we'll allow a third or fourth.
Can I add new aspects to my characters powers?
No. Your characters powers are ONLY what the description of them says.
If my character doesn't have powers now (i.e. apped for a No Power) and a power opens up on the list, can I have my character develop powers?
Within reason. If a power opens up on the list, and your character is listed as 'No Power', as long as you hold that power before anyone else, then yes. However, it has to make sense that the character would develop it, which is why you must ask mods approval first.
Can I apply for powers that aren't on the list?
No. It takes the mod a long time to realphabetize the character list when new powers are added. Therefore, we ask that you only apply for powers that are open on the list.
All the spots on the character list are taken. Will you add more powers?
Unfortunately, no. At least, not at the moment. The game is becoming huge, and while we love how awesomely in depth all the character relations are, sometimes it becomes a little hard to follow with a game of this magnitude. If you're interested in a character or power, check back every week or so. The mod does sweeps as often as possible.
Can my character be homosexual or bisexual?
This is a tricky question. Our game already has a huge abundance of homosexual/bisexual characters. We do not want to cap it off, saying no one can have gay characters, but we do as that there is only one homosexual/bisexual character per player. Please keep in mind that this is a small town, and though the state is fairly liberal, it it highly unlikely to have such a huge community of homosexuals.
Can I kill my character?
Yes. But ask a mod first.
